Frequently asked

Frequently asked questions

What does the suitability test cover?
The SEC-mandated suitability questionnaire assesses your understanding of private market investing — including illiquidity and lock-up risk, fee structures, valuation and reporting norms, fund structures (evergreen, interval, tender-offer, REIT, BDC, direct OpCo), and the accreditation standards required to participate. It also evaluates your financial situation and investment objectives to confirm private market exposure is appropriate for you. If you'd like to brush up before taking the test, our Investor Handbooks walk through every concept the test covers.
What is a sub-accredited investor?
A sub-accredited investor does not yet meet the SEC's accredited-investor thresholds but is eligible to participate in lower-tier vehicles — typically evergreen, interval, or tender-offer funds with modest minimums and periodic liquidity. Qualification is established through the suitability assessment plus identity verification. Documentation is generally a self-attestation of your financial situation, supported by your completed suitability questionnaire and identity verification record.
What is an accredited investor?
Under SEC Rule 501(a) of Regulation D, an accredited investor is an individual who has earned income exceeding $200,000 in each of the two most recent years (or $300,000 joint income with a spouse) and reasonably expects the same this year, or has a net worth exceeding $1,000,000 (individually or jointly with a spouse), excluding the value of a primary residence. Documentation typically includes recent tax returns or W-2s for income, and bank, brokerage, or investment statements for net worth — or a signed letter from a licensed CPA, attorney, or registered investment advisor confirming your status.
What is a qualified purchaser?
A qualified purchaser (under Section 2(a)(51) of the Investment Company Act of 1940) is an individual (or a family-owned entity) owning $5,000,000 or more in investments, or an entity owning $25,000,000 or more in investments (certain entities may qualify at $50 million). This is a higher threshold than accredited status and unlocks access to funds reserved for qualified purchasers. Documentation usually includes recent investment account statements, audited financials, or third-party verification from a financial professional confirming the value of your investment holdings.
How do I document my investor status?
Your suitability questionnaire and identity verification establish your baseline tier within the portal. To formally document accredited or qualified-purchaser status for a specific fund subscription, your advisor at AltsPrism will request supporting evidence — such as tax returns, investment statements, or a third-party certification letter from a CPA, attorney, or registered investment advisor. You'll be guided through exactly what's required when you submit an investment intent.
I got interrupted mid-onboarding. Do I have to start over?
No, your progress is automatically saved. We utilize a passwordless security model. Simply click the unique link sent to your registered email or phone number to resume exactly where you left off, on any device.
Plaid is saying my ID scan failed or is blurry. What should I do?
Camera glares or dim lighting can occasionally trigger a retry prompt.
  • Ensure your ID is placed flat on a dark, non-reflective surface.
  • Avoid overhead lighting that creates a glare on the card's laminate.
  • Keep your hands steady; the system will automatically snap the photo when the text is in focus.
My legal name on my ID differs from my clinical name in the NPI registry. Will this block me?
It will not block you from the platform. If there is a name variation (e.g., a hyphenated name, middle name discrepancy, or married vs. maiden name), our automated system flags it for “Asynchronous Review.” You will still be granted immediate, view-only access to the fund marketplace while our compliance team manually clears the flag within a few hours.
Can I invest through my medical practice corporate entity or a retirement account?
Yes. While your initial identity verification must be completed as an individual, your dashboard allows you to seamlessly add investing entities. You can link a Medical Practice LLC, Trust, Corporate Entity, or Self-Directed IRA directly from your account settings after your personal identity check clears.
How is my sensitive financial and medical registry data secured?
We take data security with the utmost seriousness. Our platform utilizes AES-256 bank-grade encryption for all stored data and transport layer security (TLS) for all data in transit. Your biometric data and document scans are securely processed by Plaid in compliance with SOC 2 Type II global security regulations.
What are your verification processing times and review timelines?
We leverage automation to clear your profile as quickly as possible. The vast majority of our investors are cleared instantly, though manual edge cases are processed around the clock:
  • Automated Identity Check (Plaid): Instant to 5 minutes. If your ID photos are crisp and your camera liveness scan matches perfectly, you will see a green checkmark immediately.
  • Document-Based Accreditation: 2 to 4 hours. If you choose to upload tax returns or corporate documents, our internal compliance team reviews and verifies them on a rolling basis.
  • Third-Party CPA / Attorney Verification: Variable. If you request that we message your accountant or attorney directly via our portal link, verification depends on how quickly your representative clicks and signs the digital attestation form. Once they sign, your account updates in real time.
  • Manual Reviews & Flag Resolution: Under 12 hours. If your submission is flagged due to an NPI name mismatch or a blurry photo, a dedicated compliance officer will manually review and resolve the issue. You will receive an automated text or email the moment your status changes.
